How to get paid for getting fit

For a couple of years now I’ve been using a range of fitness and health apps, and I use a fitbit to track my steps and daily activity, but Bounts* is a new addition that I think might be the ultimate fitness motivator.

Bounts is an app/website that links in to many popular apps that you probably already use – fitbit, mapmyrun and strava, for example – and lets you “earn rewards by getting active – whatever the exercise.”

Bounts syncs with your activity tracking apps or websites and rewards you points based on your level of activity or number of activities done that day. When you have enough points, you can redeem them for vouchers – for example I’ve been using Bounts for a couple of months and have received my first Amazon voucher, and am well on the way to having enough points for another voucher.

Recently there have been some changes made from when I joined, and now there are three different tiers of membership: the Free plan, the Premium plan (83p per month), and the Premium+ plan (£1.25 per month). In a nutshell, the more you pay, the quicker you will earn rewards as you are rewarded more points per activity.

It does take a little while to earn enough points – fitbit is my main activity tracker and on the Premium plan you only receive 10 points per 7,000 steps in a day, up to a maximum of 30 points (21,000 steps). To put this into context, you need around 1,300 points for a £5 voucher.

But look at it this way: if you already use these apps and trackers, Bounts is a way for you to carry on with what you’re doing, but give you the chance to earn vouchers for doing it. Essentially I’ve received an Amazon voucher just for walking around at work!

At last – what we have all been waiting for – the ultimate fitness motivator. Get fit, and get paid while you do it! Not a Bounts member yet? Sign up*!

*This is a referral link. I will earn a few Bounts points for referring you, which will go towards my next voucher.
